Ever since Dr. Johnson described politics as the last refuge of a scoundrel, it has become the first choice of all scoundrels, scamsters, bandits, intrigue-mongers, money -and-sex-addicts and all kinds of perverts.But chair or authority is worshipped everywhere. Those who are in power enjoy unbridled authority to pursue their mania for more and more money, power and luxury. Hypocrisy being the ruling principle of almost all politically run societies, the question of values remains by and large hypothetical and illusory. Politics and morality have become opposite poles. Those who love to mouth the words of Mahatma Gandhi are the biggest enemies of his values and principles of ethics which were so dear to his heart and by which he lived his whole life.Politicians belonging almost to all political parties have only one-point agenda- how to capture power. If any one of them or all of them talk of nationalism or patriotism or national service or democracy or culture or values, they are telling the biggest lies. It is time that our youth took initiative to purge our country of the wicked crop of politicians and brought to power the real heroes and leaders capable of leading the country into the heaven of freedom that Rabindranath Tagore had dreamed.
